MAD is essentially an animated version of the magazine, albeit more kid-friendly.

And yeah, Young Justice was awesome today. It's cool to see how some of the heroes decided to settle down.

Guys, you should go read the Secret History of D.B. Cooper.
It's a comic book series where D.B. Cooper is actually a CIA agent who fights Cold War threats inside of the human mind.
I am entirely serious when I say this.

SO HEY, DC recently revealed one of their "iconic superheros" will reveal that s/he is gay.

The Escapist wrote:
A statement from DC's Senior VP of Publicity Courtney Simmons narrowed it down, when she confirmed to ABC Burbank that one of DC's "major iconic" characters will "reveal that he is gay in a storyline in June." So we know that the hero in question is male, and that he is considered an "iconic" level character.

I don't even remember who is currently the Green Lantern. Has Aquaman ever had a love interest?

Aquaman's had a wife in the past. Hal Jordan has had a love interest. There are other Green Lanterns, such as Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner, and John Stewart.

It's the New 52, though, so canon doesn't take that much precedence. It's always nice to see comic books try something new, even if other media have done it ad nauseam. People are always complaining about how comics never change, but when comic book companies try something different, it's a split between people not caring or people whining to the point of making your ears bleed.

It's possible they might not do the "he was gay the entire time" deal, and have it be a "realization" scenario. It's an uncommon occurrence in everyday life, so it's realistic. It does feel like pandering to the LGBT community, but face it, the LGBT community is a minority among comic book readers. While I can understand how it would bring in a lot of cheddar, they are taking a big risk by appealing to a smaller percentage of their reader base. If they pull it off correctly and maturely then I wouldn't even care if it's a pandering maneuver.

Also in regards to why it's a guy over a girl, I suppose they have a larger pool of male "iconic figures" over women (and I don't think making the only "popular" woman into a lesbian would sit well with people) and technically they do have a lesbian in Kate Kane (technically the original, but also second Batwoman).

And maybe this is just me, but it seems like whenever a media (television, comics, whathaveyou) reaches out to the LGBT community, they opt to tackle male homosexuality instead of female homosexuality or bisexuality or transgender issues. Even in the whole gay marriage debate, nine times out of ten they'll talk to or about male gay couples. I've got my theories for why this is so, but that'd probably be getting too much into Taboo.

I remember Marvel's 'Runaways' delved into female-on-female homosexuality/attraction on more than one occasion.

In fact it was an ongoing theme for Karolina Dean.

Yeah, there aren't a lot of homosexual characters as a whole, but there's a decent share for each gender. I'm not sure if either DC or Marvel have gone into trans* territory, though.

Well, Karolina's partner from the same series - Xavin - had an indeterminate gender/sex, but wasn't actually a human character so Idk if he/she counts.

Karolina is strictly speaking an alien too so Idk.

EDIT: fixed link to Xavin's bio page.

That is true, but yeah, I don't think that counts as trans* territory. I haven't gotten up to that part in Runaways but I did spoiler a bit for myself; I think Xavin originally showed himself as a guy, but when he became interested in Karolina and learned she was a lesbian he was like, "I will be whatever makes you pop flyin' as long as I can be with you." Something along those lines. It's not as much a gender identity issue as it is "doing what you can to be with the one you love."
