Katie somehow forgot that Est was locked up in a cell. In both Gaiden and Echoes.

Unless you're talking about how she got captured in the first place, then here: During's Marth's game, Est fell in love with Abel and left the trio to open a shop with him to settle down after the war was over. Unfortunately, she gets captured by pirates and was taken prisoner to the continent where Alm and Celica lives. Her pegasus is alive for some reason too. Eventually Celica's team rescues her.
