I'm telling this to every gamer I know, because it is a very important issue, and everyone needs to hear what he says!

Voting for him in this contest would be very beneficial, in that more people would know about him and as such, would be more likely to see this video, but for now, just watch the video and tell every gamer you know!

Oh not this shit again.

EDIT: Okay actually watched it. Bullshit.

Just like in the Kirby video, he's taking the beliefs of a few select (albeit crazy, as he says*) people and acting like it's an actual problem. As if Jack Thompson has ever accomplished anything.

His "observations" of hardcore gamers regarding classic Nintendo as "gay" in the Kirby video were rooted in his own adolescence, and he was probably trying to atone for his video game prejudice via YouTube. This video's origin probably isn't rooted in his melodramatic skeletons, but it's more of a glorification of the problem of video game censorship, in order to make himself look more important. (It's funny, he acts like video game censorship is a problem, while at the same time saying that people who believe video games should be censored are either "Stupid, insane, or lying," and therefore shouldn't be a problem, really)

Notice how he appears in person in this video, as opposed to being a disembodied voice. He just wants people to remember him as some sort of rallying general in a war, when really he's just some kid on YouTube (well, ScrewAttack), whining about a few people who are trying to take his video games away, but will probably never succeed. First of all, I think the American Congress has many other things to worry about, and second, even if they had solved all of our nation's other problems, I still doubt a measure to censor violent video games would gain much momentum. Near the end of the video, he says, "History will remember this as the great video game violence debate." No. It won't.

*He points out that there is no factual ground for these people to stand on, and this is a good point. See, this is my problem with these videos. He has some good ideas, but he tries to compile them along with his bad ideas into one thesis that usually doesn't work.

Well, at least he's making you think, which is, as he said, the point of these videos.

No. No he's not. The entire video can be separated into three parts:
1: Telling you what you already believe. That crazy people are crazy, and that basts are basts.
2: Using blatant propaganda about how the VG industry is about to implode. Here's a tip: the whole comic book censorship issue is more akin to Nintendo's NES censorship issues. We are well beyond that point.
3: Buffing up his ego, saying that this video marks the turning point, that following his advice will solve the problem.

Well, I guess you're right in that it does make me think. But only in the sense that I'm thinking about how an utter waste of 12 minutes this video was!

In fact, I nominate this thread for a locking!

I completely agree with Plasma and Water. Basically he's making a huge deal out of what is essentially a small problem. In the U.S., at least. I heard the whole "VIDEO GAMES=EVIL" thing is big in Germany, and Australia censors the hell out of tons of games. So, the problem is essentially that he's aiming the video at the wrong audience.

Even then, though, the video just isn't good.

Why? It's staying on topic, it's sparking conversation, and there's no jews. I'd agree that pirate dude starts way too many topics, but there's no reason this one should be locked.

I suppose PirateDude could have resurrected the OTHER thread that HE STARTED about The Videogame Overthinker, but everyone and his or her mom needs to watch this video! so it's okay. :/

Plasma thinks every thread should be locked. Also, is there another Video Game Overthinker thread? Yeah, just necro that one if you have a relevant -good- post to justify bringing it back up with.
