Fireworks are illegal in maine.

Not that anyone actually pays attention to that law. You could send a roman candle past most cops' faces and so long as it doesn't singe them they wont care.

What are Canadians celebrating on Canada Day anyways? Independence? A prosperous country? Hockey?

Yup, it's celebrating the day our country become independent and usually we celebrate with fireworks (less than you guys) and various fairs around town. In my hometown, shops would set up little booths to buy things that... you only ever buy on Canada Day, and where I live now they have a huge festival on the bank of the river. There's free barbeque, but you have to buy your own ice-cream.

Fireworks (the good ones anyway) are illegal in Michigan without a permit. << But most people just go to Indiana or Wisconsin and buy them anyway. 8)

I have to work all friggin morning but I can at least watch the fireworks downtown at night.
